Little House On The Prairie: Season Six

113. Back To School (1)
Guest Star: Dean Butler (Almanzo Wilder) Lucy Lee Flippin (Eliza Jane Wilder) Katherine MacGregor (Mrs. Oleson) Alison Angrim (Nellie Oleson)

The school's new teacher is Ms. Wilder. Laura falls in love with Ms. Wilder's brother Almanzo. Laura is crushed when Nellie invites Almanzo over for dinner. Laura gets even with Nellie by volunteering to cook dinner for them. Laura adds some hot spices to the chicken and since Nellie had said that she had cooked the meal, Almanzo stays away from Nellie.

b: 17-Sep-1979 w: Michael Landon d: Michael Landon

NOTE: Introduction of Almanzo Wilder & his sister Eliza Jane Wilder. Mrs. Oleson and Nellie Oleson are credited as guests stars in this episode. Plenty of humorous jokes from all around. And as this the episode where Laura and Almanzo meet for the first time, we see Laura all sappy over her 'Manly'. Laura's joke on Nelly (and Almanzo) at Nelly's restaurant is devilishly funny. In this episode, Nellie graduates from Walnut Grove School. As a graduation present, Harriet (without the consent or support of her husband, Nels) gives Nellie a restaurant and hotel named for her...something Harriet hopes will help her precious daughter catch a husband. Nellie, of course, balks at the "present."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

114. Back To School (2)
Guest Star: Dean Butler (Almanzo Wilder) Lucy Lee Flippin (Eliza Jane Wilder) Katherine MacGregor (Mrs. Oleson) Alison Arngrim (Nellie Oleson)

When Laura and Nellie get in a fight about the graduation test, Almanzo separates them and takes Laura home with him. When Charles finds out that Almanzo took Laura home with him, Charles goes to Almanzo's place and punches Almanzo because he fears his daughter was being taken advantage of. Laura yells at the fighting pair and tells them that she is no longer a child.

b: 24-Sep-1979 w: Michael Landon d: Michael Landon

NOTE: This story is about love, growing up, trickery and revenge. The laughs are running throughout. With Laura sparking Nellie's revenge off with the Cinnamon chicken incident, Nellie gives only two books for Laura's special test and lies about the major part of it; when Laura's test has turned to failure, she runs off to the pond. Nellie then happens to come along, (to the dramatic music), and you know there is going to be a bust-up. Almanzo steps in and pulls Laura off, but the feud is not over, as a mud-covered Nellie spins a yarn about Laura and Almanzo kissing and Charles goes off to beat up Almanzo. Mrs. Oleson and Nellie Oleson are credited as guests stars in this episode.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

115. The Family Tree
Guest Star: Michael Pataki (Quinn) John Zaremba (Judge Adams)

Each student must trace their family tree for a school assignment. Albert is unsure how he can do the assignment. The Ingalls decide to legally adopt Albert, but run into problems when Mr. Quinn, Albert's father shows up. He wants Albert until he sees him. Albert pretends to be blind with the hope that his father wouldn't want him. The blindness does the trick. Albert is legally adopted by the Ingalls.

b: 01-Oct-1979 w: Vince R. Gutierrez d: William F. Claxton

NOTE: 1) Lucy Lee Flippin was credited as one of the townsfolk from this episode onwards. (As was Dean Butler as Almanzo Wilder).
2) The humor is supplied mainly from the Oleson's, especially Harriet - watch out for when she tries her new inside toilet. However, this story is a nightmare for the Ingalls and Albert, and there are some emotional scenes for those who may need tissues.
3) Watch out for Albert's meeting with his biological father. Albert uses all that he has learned on the streets to good use, by being wily and pretending to be blind.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

116. The Third Miracle

Adam wins a prestigious award. Laura and Albert give the Christmas money they had made from collecting honey, to Adam and Mary to go on a trip to receive the award. After the stagecoach is involved in a very serious accident, Mary must save the life of a woman and her unborn child, as well as Adam who is trapped by the legs under the stagecoach. But they have taken a different road away from their original route. Then there is a fire.

b: 08-Oct-1979 w: John T. Dugan s: Kenneth Hunter d: Michael Landon

NOTE: You can find the cast list as co-stars (details) as there was no main guests for this episode. This story is about a joyous time, humor (at Mrs. Oleson and Nellie's expense) and disaster. The third miracle is what saves the survivors of the stagecoach accident.
Albert's wily ways gets full price and payback on Mrs. Oleson, which should make you laugh.
An appearance by Leslie Landon (Michael Landon's daughter), as Marge in this episode.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

117. Annabelle
Guest Star: Harriett Gibson (Annabelle) Billy Barty (Owen) Ken Berry (London) Wendy Schaal (Christie)

A circus comes to Walnut Grove. Everybody is helping set up, except Nels Oleson. His long, lost sister is in the circus. Only Mrs. Oleson believes her husband's story about his sister. Nels is nominated to be the announcer at the circus. When he announces his sister, he says, "My sister, Annabelle." These words lead to Nels and Annabelle becoming very close siblings.

b: 15-Oct-1979 w: Del Reisman d: William F. Claxton

NOTE: Lots of co-stars, including animal and circus performers.
Laura uses her devilish nature to get back at the snooty Christie whose making designs on her 'Manly'. Watch out for what she does at the circus and how all her planning comes together. She even kisses a shocked Manly after this and still in her clown's outfit bids a hello to her mother. (*see quote) A bitter-sweet story for Nels Oleson, as he struggles with his relationship with his sister and all the fat jokes (mainly from Harriet). But all turns out well in the end, (except maybe for Harriet).

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

118. The Preacher Takes A Wife
Guest Star: William Schallert (Dean Harmon) Iris Korn (Anna Craig) Dabbs Greer (Reverend Alden)

Mrs. Craig is in love with Reverend Alden. Although Mrs. Oleson tries to stop Reverend Alden from marrying Mrs. Craig, the wedding goes on as planned.

b: 22-Oct-1979 w: John T. Dugan d: Maury Dexter

NOTE: Something scandalous, only because Mrs. Oleson makes it so and threatens to destroy two lives, until she is reminded of her own past. The Reverend Alden was credited as a guest in this episode & Kevin Hagen as Dr. Baker was unseen in main town's credits, though he featured in this episode. This is also the only time we saw Mrs. Craig. The actress died soon after.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

119. The Halloween Dream
Guest Star: Philip Carey (Commander Kaiser) Frank DeKova (Chief Kilowatt) Henry K. Bal (Chief Sly Fox)

Albert's imagination starts to get the better of him when he dreams that he and Laura are taken by Indians.

b: 29-Oct-1979 w: Michael Landon d: Michael Landon

NOTE: The humor is running throughout. Even little Grace manages to frighten her older sister - Carrie.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

120. The Little House Years (1)

At Thanksgiving, the Ingalls family share stories of their favorite memories. Contains flashbacks of LHOTP's greatest episodes.

b: 15-Nov-1979

NOTE: Features a different opening theme. Same music, but new opening. This episode is not available on the Imavision DVD Season 6 set.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

121. The Little House Years (2)

At Thanksgiving, the Ingalls family share stories of their favorite memories. Contains flashbacks of LHOTP's greatest episodes.

b: 15-Nov-1979

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

122. The Little House Years (3)
Guest Star: Shawna Landon (the girl in the library)

At Thanksgiving, the Ingalls family share stories of their favorite memories. Contains flashbacks of LHOTP's greatest episodes. At the end of the episode, Laura comments she hopes to write a book about her special memories.

b: 15-Nov-1979

NOTE: At the end of this episode we see a cameo appearance of Michael's daughter running into a modern day library to discover Laura Ingalls Wilder's books. This clip was used again in the finale season.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

123. The Return of Mr. Edwards
Guest Star:  Kyle Richards (Alicia Edwards) Victor French (Mr. Edwards)

After an accident where a tree falls on him, Mr. Edwards is injured and can't walk properly and feels like he is only half a man. Charles and Laura visit him, where Mr. Edwards seems to come out of his dark mood at seeing Laura. Charles, Mr. Edwards and Laura go on a hunting trip, where Mr. Edwards has deadly intent on his mind. Charles then resorts to a serious tactic to help his friend.

b: 05-Nov-1979 w: Arthur Heinemann d: Michael Landon

NOTE: An almost scary story, particularly of what Mr. Edwards has in store for himself on the hunting trip.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

124. The King Is Dead
Guest Star: Leo Gordon (Milo Stavroupolis) Ray Walston (Jimmy Hart)

Jonathan is tricked into believing that he is a good wrestler. Jimmy Hart tricks Jonathan into believing this just to make money off of Jonathan. The local region is betting heavily including many residents of Walnut Grove who stand to lose a lot of money. Mrs. Oleson is betting heavily too, with the church funds, which she is treasurer for. Milo has to prove to Jonathan that he has been set up. In the end, Jonathan has Milo (the wrestler he beat in round one), take his place in the wrestling ring.

b: 12-Nov-1979 w: Michael Landon d: Michael Landon

NOTE: Mrs. Oleson with gambling fever should be avoided at all costs. She even knocks out Mr. Oleson on one occasion. A bit of irony: Years later, there would be a man by the name of Jimmy Hart who became famous in the 1980s as a rule breaking professional wrestling manager in the World Wrestling Federation. And yes, Jimmy Hart was his real name (he was a member of the 1960s rock group The Gentry's and has composed much of the soundtrack for the WWF's (now World Wrestling Entertainment programs).

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

125. The Faith Healer
Guest Star: James Olson (Rev. Edward Danforth) Tom Rosqui (Matthew)

A faith healer comes to Walnut Grove. He is able to convince people that he is better than the Reverend or Doc Baker. He is found out to be a fake when a little boy dies from a ruptured appendix.

b: 19-Nov-1979 w: Don Balluck d: Maury Dexter

NOTE: A story of deception, lies, greed and false hope (which ends in death before a charlatan is exposed). At one point during the episode, the Garveys and Ingalls are the only ones to attend Rev. Alden's church service, the majority of residents having been drawn to Rev. Danforth's charasmatic services.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

126. Author, Author
Guest Star: Barry Sullivan (Frederick Holbrook)

Caroline's mother dies while traveling on a train heading for Walnut Grove. Caroline's father takes to the sod house for a while. Albert is the one that convinces him to go fishing with him. Caroline's father tells great stories of the children growing up in the Big Woods. Mr. Ingalls convinces Caroline's father to write down the stories. The Ingalls work hard to save up enough money to get the book published. Caroline's father leaves knowing that he is a published author.

b: 26-Nov-1979 w: Carole Raschella & Michael Raschella d: William F. Claxton

NOTE: This story starts sad, but is otherwise full of humor and good news. The humorous scenes are provided mostly by the Ingalls - one or another of them being involved at the time. Note the begging scene and Laura's dirty, soot-covered, sullen face, before her cheeky grin when she (along with Albert) get money from a lady. Little minx. The restaurant kitchen scene is also funny. The only spanner in the works is Mrs. Oleson, what's new. But Albert appealing to Mrs. Oleson's greed & wicked nature, sorts everything out by tricking her and she gets what she deserves. As Grandpa Holbrook is the only guest star, all other characters were co-stars.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

127. Crossed Connections
Guest Star: Royal Dano (Harold) Sam Edwards (Bill Anderson) Marie Denn (Alice's Mother)

Harriet Oleson causes trouble between Alice and Jonathan Garvey when the telephone is first introduced in Walnut Grove. Mrs. Oleson listened to a conversation between Alice Garvey and her mother. They were discussing Alice's first husband. Mrs. Oleson tells Jonathan that his wife had been married before. Jonathan decides to leave for a while to cool off. While on a delivery with Charles, Jonathan meets Alice's ex-husband and finds out why Alice didn't talk about him. Jonathan returns home and asks his wife and his son to forgive him.

b: 10-Dec-1979 w: Don Balluck d: Michael Landon

NOTE: Nasty Mrs. Oleson is at it again and Albert comes up with a plan where it will hurt Mrs. Oleson the most... in her pocket. We get to see how this operation is put into practice and it is a delight to watch it unfolding. And when the end result is seen, few would feel sorry for Mrs. Oleson and all her tears of self pity. Look out for the different angle shots of Walnut Grove that we usually don't get to see.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

128. The Angry Heart
Guest Star: Timothy Wead (Todd Dortmunder) Susan French (Virginia Davenport) Malcolm Atterbury (Brewster Davenport)

Todd was a boy who got beaten up by his drunk father. Now Todd is 17 and is visiting his grandparents in Walnut Grove. Todd quickly gets into trouble. Charles puts Todd in jail when his watch is stolen. Todd is forced to work on Mr. Ingalls' farm. This causes Todd to learn to become a nicer person.

b: 17-Dec-1979 w: Del Reisman d: William F. Claxton

NOTE: A story of love, hate, anger, violence, fear and choice. Todd Dortmunder has them all and it's left to Charles to help him.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

129. The Werewolf Of Walnut Grove
Guest Star: Sandy Ward (Bart Slater) Patricia Donahue (Mrs. Slater) Todd Thompson (Bartholomew Slater)

Walnut Grove has a school bully, Bart. Albert and Laura want to teach the bully a lesson. Albert dresses up as a werewolf, but the bully doesn't buy it when Carrie comes out and tells Albert and Laura that she'll tell Ma that all of the glue was used by them. Laura and Albert come up with another plan. But in the end, it takes the joint efforts of the school children to get the bully to be nice.

b: 07-Jan-1980 w: John T. Dugan d: William F. Claxton

NOTE: A very nasty bully whose as big as bull (literally) in this episode. Look out for the werewolf plan of Albert's and when he ropes Laura into it, the two of them - as usual - become unstoppable. The survival of Miss Wilder as their teacher is at stake after all. But things don't quite go accordingly to plan. Note the excellent makeup of the werewolf - Albert. Hmmmm, wasn't Michael Landon in the 1957 movie "I Was a Teenage Werewolf". Notice any resemblance between him then and Albert now in this episode?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

130. What Ever Happened To The Class Of '56?
Guest Star: Liam Sullivan (Dillon Hyde) Lynn Benesch (Amy Sawyer) James Gallery (Arnie Cupps) Phillip Pine (Winthrop Morgan)

Mr. and Mrs. Ingalls travel to a farmers convention. They want to meet up with some of their old friends. Charles tries to convince the small farmers to stand up to the larger farms. Caroline is ready to go home when she finds out that several of her friends are unhappy with the way their lives have turned out. The Ingalls are more than happy to go back home.

b: 14-Jan-1980 w: John T. Dugan d: Michael Landon

NOTE: A story of how people have changed and no matter how rich they are, it doesn't mean you are happy. And if being rich is like anything like these rich folk, you may be better off being poor. As this story revolves mainly around the convention (in and out of Walnut Grove), many farmers and the class of '56 can be found as guests/co-stars in this episode. Watch out for the funny scene in the beginning between Mrs. Oleson and Caroline. It is hilarious.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

131. Darkness Is My Friend
Guest Star: James McIntire (Jake) Jonathan Banks (Jed) Larry Golden (Abel)

Some escaped convicts take refuge at the blind school during a stormy night. Laura and Mary are held captives there. One of the convicts tells Laura to go get a doctor. Laura goes and gets her Pa. Pretending to be the doctor, Charles is able to disarm the convicts.

b: 21-Jan-1980 w: Vince R. Gutierrez d: Michael Landon

NOTE: The convicts are an unpleasant bunch, particularly the leader. A violent episode actually. Yet there is still humorous scenes.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

132. Silent Promises
Guest Star: Lou Fant (Nathan Page) Alban Branton (Daniel Page)

A deaf boy learns how to communicate with people when Laura teaches him sign language. The boy falls in love with Laura and not wanting to hurt his feelings, Laura pretends to love him. Eventually, she reveals to the deaf boy that she really loves someone else.

b: 28-Jan-1980 w: Carole Raschella & Michael Raschella d: Maury Dexter

NOTE: Watch out for the many jokes (they are provided by many in today's story, including Willie and Bandit (the dog). Albert's attempts to entice Bandit into a custom-built doghouse is a disaster and the joke is on him, and watch out for the joke in the store, after Harriet is being a 'misery-guts' again and then Nels looks directly at us (the viewer) and makes a comment about her. Laura expresses her love for Manly, but not to his face and in sign language.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

133. May We Make Them Proud
Guest Star: John Zaremba (Judge Adams) Merlin Olsen (Jonathan Garvey) Hersha Parady (Alice Garvey) Kevin Hagen (Dr. Baker)

There is a picnic at the blind school. Albert and his friend accidentally leave a smoking pipe in the basement. The school catches on fire; Mrs. Garvey and Mary's baby are killed because of it. Mary goes into shock, while Jonathan blames God for what happened. Albert is able to pull Mary out of her shock. Jonathan talks to Albert and helps him deal with what he had done.

b: 04-Feb-1980 w: Michael Landon d: Michael Landon

NOTE: This was a 2 hour episode. Jonathan Garvey, Alice Garvey & Dr. Baker were all credited as guests in this episode. Last appearance of Hersha Parady as Alice Garvey. The fire at the school and those trapped can be heart-wrenching. If you haven't got at least one smoke alarm in your home, you'd be advised to do so after watching this. Though "May We Make Them Proud" is a highly dramatic episode dealing with guilt, grief, and love and forgiveness, there are a few comedic moments to lighten the heavy dramatic overtones of this episode. In particular: The first hour scene where one of the Blind School kids makes an unusual prayer request; the scene at Nellie's Restaurant where a nasty Nellie confronts the hard-to-please customer inside her restaurant with an uncooked chicken, then bats him over the head with it; and the scene featuring the talkative attorney who drives Judge Adams (the judge who handled Albert's adoption) nuts.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

134. Wilder And Wilder
Guest Star: Charles Bloom (Perley Day Wilder)

Almanzo's brother, Perley comes to town. Perley injures one of Almanzo's horses. Mr. Ingalls is proud of Almanzo when Charles sees him trying to nurse his horse back to normal. Throughout the show, Almanzo becomes more interested in Laura.

b: 11-Feb-1980 w: John T. Dugan d: Maury Dexter

NOTE: This is a story of love in the wrong places. Charles wants Laura to get together with Perley Wilder, not Almanzo. Penelope wants Andy and Albert wants Penelope. It takes to the end of the story for things and people's real personalities to emerge. Note the many humorous scenes. The only crying you should do, is with laughter. This episode is partially taken from the book "These Happy Golden Years" by Laura Ingalls Wilder. Laura did get Barnum to walk. In the book, however, Perley isn't around and Almanzo agreed to let Laura drive the horse, just giving her a caution.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

135. Second Spring
Guest Star: Suzanne Rogers (Molly Reardon) Tom Clancy (Dan Reardon) Richard Bull (Mr. Oleson)

Nels gets fed up with his wife and decides to peddle goods outside of town. Nels meets a lovely young lady and starts to fall in love with her. Nels finally tells the lady that he is married. Nels then returns home to his wife and family.

b: 18-Feb-1980 w: John T. Dugan d: William F. Claxton

NOTE: Richard Bull as Mr. Oleson was credited as a guest in this episode. As the story revolves around Mr. Oleson, only the Oleson's, Ingalls and guest stars appear in this episode (no other townsfolk or co-stars). This is an episode about sticking up for yourself, commitment and tolerance. Charles helps deliver the moral when he refuses to stick up for or support his friend, Nels, when he asks for understanding why he left his frustrating family life.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

136. Sweet Sixteen
Guest Star: Lucille Benson (Miss Trimble) Parley Baer (Mr. Williams) Tim Maier (Chad Brewster) Dean Butler (Almanzo Wilder)

Laura gets the opportunity to be a temporary teacher for a nearby town. Almanzo drives her to the school. Laura realizes in this episode that Almanzo also has feelings for her. Their romance steps up another degree in this episode.

b: 25-Feb-1980 w: John T. Dugan d: Michael Landon

NOTE: Dean Butler was credited as a guest in this episode. Watch out for all the undertones in this episode and Almanzo's 'confused' state of mind. A conclusion that began at the beginning of this season is finally sealed, ready for a new chapter for Laura and Almanzo. We all get to see Laura as a young woman now.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

137. He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not (1)
Guest Star: Steve Tracy (Percival Dalton) Alison Arngrim (Nellie Oleson) Dub Taylor (Houston)

Almanzo asks for Laura's hand in marriage. Mr. Ingalls tells Almanzo to wait until Laura was eighteen. Not wanting to wait, Almanzo forces Laura to choose him or respect her father. Laura respects her father's wishes. Almanzo leaves town and causes Laura a lot of heartache. Harriet hires Percival Dalton to help her in the restaurant. Nellie and Percival fall in love and eventually Percival asks Nellie to marry him. Adam's father dies, which means that a new blind school wouldn't be built in Walnut Grove.

b: 05-May-1980 w: Michael Landon d: Michael Landon

NOTE: There's love, marriage and heartache and changes (blind school & hotel) in this story for many of the residents of Walnut Grove. Plenty of humorous scenes thrown in (like the first meeting between Laura and Houston). Alison Arngrim as Nellie Oleson was credited as a guest in this episode (as she meets her future husband in here). Watch out for Percival Dalton and his forceful effect on Nellie and Mrs. Oleson. Nels can't believe it.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

138. He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not (2)
Guest Star: Steve Tracy (Percival Dalton) Alison Arngrim (Nellie Oleson) Dean Butler (Almanzo Wilder) Dub Taylor (Houston)

Laura helps Adam and Mary set up a new blind school in Sleepy Eye to try to get her mind off of Almanzo. That doesn't work because Almanzo is also in Sleepy Eye. When Almanzo gets very sick, Laura rushes to help him. She finds out that he had been secretly helping to pay the rent for the blind school. Almanzo pulls through thanks to Laura being by his side. Mr. Ingalls decides to allow Almanzo to marry Laura in one year, instead of two.

b: 12-May-1980 w: Michael Landon d: Michael Landon

NOTE: Alison Arngrim and Dean Butler were credited as guests in this episode.
Continuing the story of love for Laura, Almanzo, and Nellie with Percival.
