| I have been watching LHOP for years and just started watching the whole seasons on DVD this week.
One thing I am noticing is when the children are playing in the school yard a cross is in the background under a tree in Season 2. I did not notice it in Season 1 though it could have been there and I missed it.
Now I know they have sunday school under that tree at times during church services which might explain it. However, I was wondering if that is supposed to be a grave of someone or was just randomly put there and has no signifance to the program.
Thanks for your help, I like the little details and this has raised my curiosity.

| hello mamapirate,
yes, it is indeed a grave...! If you watch carefully several episodes, from season 1 too (like "If I should wake before I die" for example), you'll see that Walnut Grove cemetery is located near the church... So the children when they play in the schoolyard are often seen with graves in the background.

| Wow... you two are so obserant. I never noticed the cross before, I guess I always thought those that died on the show were buried on their property but I guess the towns people would have to be buried somewhere huh?

| A lot of people in that time period were buried on their own property. They have always had cemeteries too so it makes sense Walnut Grove would have one for their town folk or anyone who wanted to be buried there.
You can pretty clearly see the brown cross behind the school yard when they are outside playing at times. It is right under the tree where they sometimes gather for Sunday School.
I like the little details and glad someone could answer my question as I have an "inquiring mind"......
