| My apologies if this ones has been mentioned already.Laura is happy when she learns she is pregnant. She rushes off to tell Almanzo who is helping Charles repair part of the roof over part of the stable.Almanzo and Charles are thrilled by the news. When Almanzo jumps through the roof,Caroline comes running out of the house and after learning Laura is pregnant, says that she is also pregnant. She goes to see Dr.Baker to make sure the baby is fine but is devastated when Dr.Baker tells her she's not pregnant and can't have anymore children and fears Charles won't feel the same way about her and makes Dr.Baker promise not to tell Charles. After seeing how happy Charles is about the baby,Dr.Baker confronts her and says she has one day left to tell him the truth. An upset Caroline rushes home and Albert goes to get Charles telling him Caroline has been crying and she tells him she lost the baby.He goes to see Dr.Baker to tell him there won't be any baby and Dr.Baker mistakenly lets it slip that Caroline wasn't pregnant.Charles is upset at first when he learns she had been lying only to be understanding of her feelings. They go away to attend the wedding of their friends son and Charles proposes they renew the vows.

| This was a good episode. It was nice to see a more vulnerable side of Caroline.

| It's one of my favorite episodes.Caroline wanted so badly to give Charles a son and was deeply upset and heart broken when she learned she won't be able to have another son.It had to break heart knowing Charles Frederick was the only son she was able to give him and he died.Charles could have easily gotten mad at her for hiding the truth from him,but he was loving and understanding.

| We haven't gotten to this one yet because the reviews are still in Season 3, but that's fine.
Part of me wishes that Laura's announcement wasn't tied to the same episode where Caroline finds out she can't have anymore children, but I think part of the reason they did that might be because they decided to make Laura pregnant forever when other characters were only pregnant for an episode or two.
I feel badly for Caroline in this one. Even though I'm fairly certain I am done with having children, I don't like the idea that one day that decision will be made for me. And because a woman's role at that time was heavily involved in child bearing and the nurturing of children, I can imagine this was a tough blow to her. She believes that suddenly Charles will have no use for her even though giving him children is only one aspect of their relationship.
Dr. Baker's announcement that she can't have anymore children is also a tough blow to Charles, who probably still holds out hope for a son of his own.
There are a couple things that bother me in this episode. The first is that Caroline doesn't seem to be thankful for the children she has. Even with Mary and Laura gone, she has Albert, Carrie and Grace. And Grace is still very young. But I think, like Almanzo who will deal with being paralyzed later, this is such a personal blow to her that Caroline can't think beyond her own feelings at this point in time to remember all she has.
I never cared for Charles lying to her and making himself the bad guy by saying he wasn't sure he wanted the baby. Honesty has always been a very important component of the show and here, even though the lie is done out of love, I am bothered by it. I would have preferred he tell her that he knows what really happened and allow the time away from the family to heal the pain of their loss and then have them renew their vows as a way to commit to each other again.
This is a very powerful episode, and even with my nitpicks I like watching it.

| I agree that Charles should have told Caroline he found out that she was never pregnant and that they could have tried to help each other work their pain.He should have never told Caroline he wasn't sure about wanting the baby.I think he basically told her that because Laura told him not to let Caroline know how much the baby meant to him.My heart breaks for Caroline every time I watch the episode.Thank you for allowing the post from season 7 while we are still on season 3.

| I find this such a bittersweet episode even though I enjoy watching it. It shows such a human side to Caroline, that I love it, and proves certainly she was not perfect (who is of course).
It also shows her dealing with aging and how for many women it is such a blow to knowing they can no longer have children. Being in that age group I have seen so many suffer with that knowledge and actually feel less female because of it and Caroline's attitude reminds me of a couple friends who were that way dealing with it.

| This was an excellent show to spotlight Caroline, however, I just wish they hadn't tied in Laura's announcement of her own pregnancy with the plotline. Obviously, since Laura's story took all of five minutes to tell, the story could have stood alone without Laura's announcement.
They should have dedicated an episode for Laura's announcement. Something like what they did on I Love Lucy (without the constant comedy though). Laura finds out and then tries to find ways to break the news to Almanzo. Even the way she told Almanzo was not very romantic...just blurting it out in front of everyone who happened to be there. Again, was this an intentional downplay of any romantic life between Almanzo and Laura because of Melissa's young age?

| Although it's one of my favorite episodes,I agree that they should have had a different episode announcing Laura's pregnancy. It started out revolving around Laura and Almanzo's joy at her being pregnant only turning it into Caroline's heart break about not being able to have more children.Caroline could have said something later instead of saying something after Laura's announcement. She should have also seen Dr.Baker before telling Charles she was pregnant.
