The Creeper of Walnut Grove--Episode Review02-24-2010 3:57:03 am
Andy and Laura launch a detective agency when people in Walnut Grove start getting robbed. With many mishaps along the way, it looks like the creeper is destined to elude them. But when Miss Beadle sends them out on an errand to the Farrell farm, Laura and Andy are afraid they've discovered more than they ever wanted to. Charles, Mr. Hanson, Doc Baker, Jonathan and Nels pay a visit to the Farrell farm to make Timothy and his father a proposition that just might help everyone.

I hadn't watched this episode in a long time. I had forgotten some of the great parts, though Charles with green hair is something no one could forget.

We discover that Mrs. Oleson has a sister named Victoria--which I don't think is ever mentioned again after this episode. Timothy Farrell, who is stealing in order to help his father recover from a heart attack, is supposed to come back to Walnut Grove after medical school, so that Doc Baker will have a replacement. We know that doesn't happen; and in fact, Dr. Caleb Ledoux is introduced in "Dark Sage", but also disappears after that episode.

I had totally forgotten the scene in the mercantile with the kids dusting for fingerprints with flour. Nels had several funny lines in this one. And poor Reverend Alden, trying desperately not to laugh at Charles's green hair was so funny.

Oh, and when was Laura ever allowed to go out at night before? This sets up Laura and Andy meeting up with Willie and Nellie to catch the creeper in the Feed and Seed (which belongs to Mr. Tyler these days) and instead they pounce on Mrs. Oleson. Nels brings Laura home and Charles really lets her have it, but I keep wondering why Laura was allowed to go out at night in the first place. And Mary and Caroline could barely contain their laughter, which kind of surprised me, because wouldn't Caroline be angry that Laura wasn't at home where she was supposed to be?

All in all, this is a good episode. It just reminds me that things aren't always perfect in TV land.

It's my favorite episode from season 4.I laugh everytime the bucket of green dye or paint falls on Charles' head.Caroline tried so hard not to laugh.Poor Rev Alden trying to contain his laughter when he saw Charles' green hair and looses it when he starts to read from the 23rd Psalms.Nellie and Willie covered in flour while dusting for prints was funny and so was the part where Laura,Andy,Nellie and Willie attacked Mrs.Oleson in the feed and seed and had hay stuck on her greasy face.

Actually Laura and Mary had been out on their own at night in the episode from an earlier season. It was the Halloween one where Laura thought Nels had whacked off Mrs. Oleson's head. I think Laura and Mary were soaping the Mercantile's windows. Anyway, yes, it did amaze me in this episode and the one mentioned above how the girls were allowed to go out at night all the way to town. Not only would it have been pitch dark on their walk, but who knows what wild animals would have been lurking at that time?

The other curious thing about this episode is that you see how Andy has replaced Carl (and even Mary if you consider earlier seasons) as Laura's partner. In earlier seasons, it was always Laura and Mary doing things, then it became Laura and Carl, then Laura and Andy. Finally when Albert came on the scene, it was Laura and Albert.

You're so right about Laura always being paired up. I wish for at least a little while there had been some adventures between Laura and Carrie, but Albert came in and he took on that role.
