| Charles inherits the entire estate of a weathly uncle. Life for the whole Ingalls family changes. Harriet Oleson and Nellie are suddenly being nice to them, they're asked to donate items of need to the town, and a newspaper reporter wants to tell their story.
But their relationships with their real friends are jeopardized. When it is discovered that all the money was in the form of Confederate money and is worthless, their farm and land is set to be auctioned off to pay their bills. Can their friends come to the rescue?

| i LOVE this episode. don't we all wish our neighbors and friends would come together in our greatest need and do this for us? this episode showed the true meaning of friendship; it's not based on how much money we have or don't have, but how much we care about each other.

| I agree.
Because money does not give happiness to anyone.
The happiness is inside of us.
We have to help the lives of others who need us too.
The Union makes Strength.

| I've worked in an area where many were rich (like many in Hollywood are) and none of them were really happy. You can be happy and rich with the right attitude, but it slowly changes many people. You become a slave to it, people like you for the wrong reason, marry for the wrong reasons, and don't know how to live when some of it is gone. That was the saddest, to see losses and marriages break up, when they were still okay, but not in the same "circle". Friends left, because they were never really friends, it was the status that kept them together.
I think that's why when I watch this show, I love it so much. The actors lived different lives, but they gave us a glimpse of what could be a hard, but rewarding life.

| I know I am a little late to the party here but I like littlehousefan's comment..."I think that's why when I watch this show.....The actors lived different lives, but they gave us a glimpse of what could be a hard, but rewarding life"...I totally feel the same way and think that has always been the draw for me.

| i was watching this episode the other day and i noticed a blooper. when mr whitehead comes in the house caroline asks what he would like to drink and he says lemonade. i dont think lemonade was available back then because of it being made from lemons.

| They mention lemonade a lot, I remember in the episode where Widow Synder was having Charles fix her woodwork for her dishes, she served lemonade every 5 minutes it seems. : )
I googled it and found this:
Henry E. Allot who ran a lemonade stand at the circus invented pink lemonade in the 1800's. He accidentally dropped red candies into his yellow lemonade turning it pink, and the rest is history.

| Lemonade is said to have its origins in 10th century Egypt. I don't think it was a typical drink for pioneers, but it might have been a special treat at county fairs.
