Little House-isms10-12-2005 2:08:29 am
It happens on every show; there are catch phrases or buzz words that appear in numerous episodes. I was working on my fan fiction story "Second Chance" and Pa was explaining to Mary his dilemma of how to provide for the family now that so many businesses in town are closed. And without even thinking, I wrote Mary's response as, "What are you going to do Pa?" I had to laugh because even Caroline was guilty of her own version of that phrase, "What are you going to do Charles?"

The only other one I could think of off the top of my head was, "I'll go get the Doc" or "I'll go get Doc Baker." If any of you think of some Little House-isms, feel free to post them here.

One I could think of is Harriet Oleson saying "Oh for heaven sake!" (although that isn't a strictly a little house-ism, it was said an awful lot) Another one is "Lans Sake Child" (don't know if I spelled that correctly) Umm..let's see..."In the corner, Willie or Willie, in the corner" I am sure there are others but those are the only ones I can think of right now.

Laura and Mary are always quoting "Like you always say Pa", and even Caroline says, "Like you always say Charles". To which Charles has the comeback...I wish my family would quit quoting me...

Poor Charles, had to watch out what he said, because with all those women in the house, it always seemed to come back at him.

One of my favourite phrases from the show is when Nellie said that she would "faint dead away", makes me laugh everytime I hear it. God I love that Nellie Oleson.

Nellie: "MOTHER!...." "Well, Mother always says..."
Willie: "I DID NOT, I DID NOT!" "I'm gonna tell..."
Nancy: "You HATE me, you ALL hate me!"
Laura: "Can I go fishin'?" "Nellie, I oughtta..." "That Nellie Oleson makes me so mad!"

That's all for now.....

I am quite surprised that no one has said this yet...

"My God! He/she's burning up!"

and...

Albert and Mary's pleas to Charles are both very similar. While Mary says, "Don't leave me here Pa, don't leave me here." Albert says, "You can leave me here Pa, you can leave me here!"

Charles (and others) often sais: 'I'll see what I can do'. Or 'I'll see what I can do about it'.

What you also often hear are things like: 'Laura, you stay here'. 'Mary stay with your mother'. 'Laura you stay with Carrie etc'.

Charles always had an annoying habit of doing everything in his agenda "first thing in the morning".

Another one I just thought of is when Laura says, "If I had a remembrance book" It wasn't said al that often but it's definitely something that solely pertains to LHOTP.
