| I have to say that I thought one of the most heartbreaking episodes (actually, 2 part episode), is \"Sylvia\". All the troubles that poor girl has, and yet Albert loves her in spite of all of that. The last scene, where Albert is told he can marry her, then she dies...that makes me cry more than my wife!

| teecer, if you listen to all the narrations, you will notice a few things that don't actually come to pass. I've seen the episode many times (although I can't remember the name of it), and he does actually die. I think it was leukemia, but I'm not positive. I just remember it's in season 9, and is one of the few season 9 episodes where you see Pa (Landon). Good you brought that up though..I'd forgotten the narration where Laura says he becomes a doctor.

| Your're absolutely right Mr. Edwards! I'm always confused about Albert's fate, one said he died of leukemia, another epiosode said he went on and became Dr. Albert Ingalls. Personally I prefer Dr. Albert Ingalls!

| May we make them proud. I cry like a baby.
When Mary goes blind.
When Caroline goes to the back of the wagon and dicovers her ma has died.
There are so many tear jerker moments. These are the ones that stick out for me.

These come in handy.

| I Do, Again is also a very sad episode. It's bitter sweet because on the one hand you're so happy for Laura and on the other you want to cry right along with Caroline. She played the part extremely well. I think that was the saddest I've seen her.

| All those episodes are heartwrenching!!! The moments that stick w/ me
1. Mary going blind
2. Jack dying
3. When Hansen dies
4. When Mary thinks she gains her sight only to realize she'll nvr see again, then she admits she wanted to see for herself
5. When Laura and Mary say goodbye to each other when the INgalls leaves the city
6. When Mary and Adam leave Walnut Grove for good!!!! WAAAAAAA

| Hands down when Alice and Adam Jr. die in the fire,"May We Make Them Proud". That one kills me everytime I see it. It was just such a hard blow to Johnathan and Andy to lose their wife and mom and for Adam and Mary to lose their only child after everything else they went through.
No one did drama like Mary did IMO.

| Sylvia, what can I say. It's sad and even though Albert's in it, I don't like watching it a lot. It is disturbing. I'm glad though at the end her father realized how he was treating her and that she really wasn't a "whore."
For some reason "The Craftsman" reminds me of Sylvia especically the ending when Albert is by Mr.Singerman's bed (just like he was at Sylvia's) and crying, and him making that coffin--that was also very sad.
I agree, Caroline finding out that her mother is dead was very sad too.
"May We Make Them Proud" probably has to be the saddest. I remember when I first saw it, I just couldn't believe that Mrs.Garvey was killed.

| I haven't seen The Lord is My Shepard (but I really want to).
I think the saddest episode was May We Make Them Proud. It's bad enough that Alice and Adam Jr. die but then Charles finds out Albert had something to do with it. Just for the record though, Clay threw down the pipe, not Albert. The part where Pa says, "I love you, son! I love you!" and Albert runs to him...that gets me every time! I cry like a baby.
I didn't like Sylvia because it was so weird. I mean, it was sweet how Albert was kind to her but wanting to run off and marry Sylvia and take care of her baby when neither of them had any money? I don't know...I think they took Albert's brain out for that episode. Not to mention Ma and Pa yelling and stuff. I can't stand to see Ma and Pa angry.
Is there actally an episode where no one cries? It seems like someone cries in every episode.

| "Sylvia" is an odd episode to me too. I mean it was a very sad episode, but just didn't bother me as much as others.
"I'll Be Waving As You Drive Away" was sad in parts, but ended happy IMO. I mean she thought her life was over and it was really just the begining of the new life she was about to start. It was like her destiny. The blind school and Adam opened so many doors for her. She met and fell in love with her future husband and finally became a teacher.:)

I also think I'll be waving...is a touching episode. Especially when pa tears up.

| Without question, May we make them proud. I think that episode was rightly named. It takes a great amount of strength to move on after such a horrible thing, sometimes you have to think of "how" to make them proud to be able to go on living.
I remember when "Sylvia" first aired. The man in the mask scared me so much I ran into my hallway and peeked around the corner to see what was happening. I think I was about 9 at the time. .....Gin

| Asma, I agree about Albert and Sylvia would not work out, but it showed the well intention of Albert, nowadays too many boys at that age, and I'm sorry to say it, are busy making babies, never thought about the responsibilities, Albert on the other hand, did just the opposite.

| Another sad episode that gets me every time I see it is The Lost Ones Part 1 & 2. I don't think it was too weird to add more children to the Ingalls clan, after all they didn't just go pick a couple more out at the orphange. I don't think I could have put them on that train at all. I thought this was a job well done of Jason and Missy.......gin

| I like some of the shows others have listed but two that I am surprised noone mentioned are:
"Remember Me" season 2 and " The Silent Cry" season 7.
I recall Remember Me because the poem that Mrs Sanderson asked Rev. Alden to read was later read at Mike Landon's memorial service. Mike wrote it and it fit him perfectly.
The speech by Houston Lamb at the orphanage on behalf of those two boys just tore me up in Silent Cry.
Most of the tearfull episodes were written and directed by Mike Landon, if you notice.

| "The Craftsman" is one of the saddest episodes I think. I just loved how Albert and Mr. Singerman grew close and how Mr. Singerman took to him like he was his son. I cried watching Albert finish that coffin and I loved how much respect he had for Mr. Singerman and his Jewish beliefs. Then at the end when he is planting a seed by both of the Singerman graves...this just makes Albert even more of a mensch and Mr. Singerman would be so proud! (A mensch is a yiddish term for fundamental decency or a good human being). This episode was so sad but so meaningful and special to me.

| Oh, Linda - I completely agree! The Craftsman was a real tear jerker.
Hmm - I cried during so many episodes it's hard to pick just one, but if I had to choose, I think I'd say the very last episode. I felt like I'd lost my best friend when I saw that.

| I just watched that episode last night, The Craftsman".
I loved how Michael Landon, drawing from some of his own background, tackled topics on racism and anti-semitism in a good way, not just preaching, but showing how dumb people are by their actions.
I thought this show showed a wondeful relationship and they both had great chemistry together. It was sad and heartwarming.
I also liked the episode with Todd Bridges where he runs away from home and then realizes the reality of being "free" wasn't really true. The one quote Ive repeated to people when they say minorities have so many benefits, etc. "Would you want to live to be 100 and be black or 50 and be white?" I've never had anyone answer just reflect and change the subject.

| It seems like everything bad always happened to Albert. I mean, he was an orphan, he was the blame for Mary's baby's death, his love Sylvia dies, and then when he finally has a future with another girl.... he is told he will die in A look back to yesterday. He was honestly my favorite character (along with Willie Oleson) and yet, they always had it in for him!

| There were so many, but as a mother, watching little Charles get weaker and knowing he was going to die was awful. The ending of the show, blowing things up was also very sad in another way, you knew, there just couldn't be a reunion, the town we knew was gone.
Being sensitive, I always felt for the underdog, the stutterer, the slow child, the overweight child, he did cover the gammit.
