| Hi All!!
It has started: The Olympic Winter Plays!!
I'm a big sport fan and I love the olympics. We Dutch people don't have many winter olympic sports men/women. For example we have 2 snowboarders, 3 shorttrackers, a couple of Bobslee's and ofcourse we have speed ice skaters.
It is the ice skating part where we have the most chance to win medals. Our biggest competition is from the U.S.A and Norway. I say: May the best win .
But if I'm honest, I don't think we'll collect many medals, although I hope so ofcourse !!!
I love shortracking too, it's really funny and great to watch!!
The snowboarders & skiers etc are great too!! I just can't choose!! I'm going to watch it all!!
Are you going to watch it and what do you like the most about the Winter Olympics?

| Hi Sylvia
While I'm writing, I'm watching how the number 1,2 & 3 receive their medals . It's for speed ice skating - distance 5 kilometers. But because I know there is a timediffence, and some of you haven't maybe seen this yet, I will not say who the winners are .
I love the summer olympics too! I all sportevents. It's so much fun to watch !!
Yeah I hope both the Netherlands & the U.S.A (an other country ofcourse ) will win many medals

| If it's not a dumb question to ask, what is the difference between ice skating and speed skating??
|

SoldiersWife profile (must be logged in) Pioneer Oregon, USA Join Date: 08-13-2005 post: 8100 | 02-11-2006 7:06:08 pm |
| Ice skating is performing to music, speed skating is skating fast in a circle or oval whatever it may be, no music.

| Ice Skating is my favorite event to watch!
I heard the opening of the Winter Olympics was fantastic as well. I missed it. I will try to catch a few events here and there.
I heard there's this one event called "Curling"--I think. What exactly is this event about?
Good Luck to all!

| Asma,
Curling is a game originated from Scotland, 4 people slide this heavy oblate stones toward the center of a circle. It's kind of amusing watching them.

| Yeah, that girl almost fell a split on the ice, when I saw it in slowmotion I was like . They still finished their performance, now that is what I call going through all the way . And they won silver .
Another chineze couple won the bronze medal and gold went to a cananda pair right?? Their performance was awesome!

| Yes Sarah that must be her. I don't think there was more than one Chinese team in Pairs skating. Oh, I'm glad they at least got the silver. My local newstation did a story on them and how their coach had to struggle a lot to maintain ice skating in China and how hard it was for him. So I'm glad they atleast got the Silver.
Yeah Daisy the Canadian team did well! Hmmm....did they beat the Russians

| Yeah the men figure skating was great It's so awesome to watch. I'm watching ice dancing right now.
The score of the Netherlands is:
Gold 1
Silver 2
Bronz 1
All collected with speed skating, because that it almost the only event we have sporters for. Yesterday the team persue was on for speed ice skating. Our Dutch team was against Italy in the half final, but we fell . Luckely we won the bronz .

Congrats to the Netherlands for getting Bronze . That is still good .
I saw part of ice dancing last night. It sounds like it would be very fun. I am amazed at the speed they skate with when they are dancing.
