Thanks for the link, Sarah. It was an interesting article. I was expecting her to look like Lucy Lee Flippin!

Eliza Jane was really a remarkable woman. She was a true pioneer. In her books Laura doesn't give Elize Jane enough credit. Eliza was a claim holder just as her brothers were. She was a teacher in the wonter months when she wasn't living out on her claim. She may have been a bossy sister but I think she deserves credit for trying to make it on her own. William Anderson has written a little booklet called A WILDER IN THE WEST all about Eliza Jane and her attempts to win against Uncle Sam.

It's so strange seeing pictures of the real people, isn't it?

I agree Sarah/Alice, I think at first we all have Melissa Gilbert and Dean Butler in our heads as Laura and Almanzo, so I was quite surprised when I first saw the real L&A.

Thank you for the picture of Eliza Jane, my first reaction was actually she kinda look like a friend of mine, you know the face and the eyes, I gotta tell her but of course she won't admit it.

For a picture of an older Laura and Almanzo, go to the thread called The Real LH Characters
