| Hello and Welcome to Prairie Talk!
It's been a very long time since I've seen this episode and then I think I've only seen it maybe twice. Could you please describe the scene you are talking about?

| Are you talking about when Charles gets mad at Laura because she went looking for the bottle by the creek and did not come home after dark?
The scene opens with the INgalls family eating dinner with the exception of Laura of course. Ma offers charles more coffee and as she is about to pour, laura walks in shepishly and closes the door. "I didn't realize how late it was..." Charles shoots her an angry glance and then says "Upstairs... Now!" And Laura quickly complies. They cut to carrie who says "Laura's going to get it." Something like that and then the next scene is Laura standing by her bed with Pa coming up the stairs to the loft.
I think charles starts off with "Suppose you tell me where you were" Laura responds "I was walking" and Charles says "not towards home I take it." I'm not sure of the rest I think Laura says "no sir" to Charles and Charles says he can't hear her and then Laura repeat louder. Oh, then Charles says something like "I haven't given you a whipping in a long time and it looks like I"ve been making a mistake" Laura pleads with him not to and says she didn't mean it and of course charles forgives her.
I agree that charles' reaction was a little harsher than it usually is, but then again he blew up at her in Creeper at Walnut Grove too when his hair turned green.
Then again, Charles usually gives Laura a chance to explain herself, and this time he didn't. He just exploded. The one episode I think where Charles reacts differntly is when Laura is older and they go to see Mr. Edwards who wants to end his life because of the accident he had. I think that is the only episode where Charles actually hits Laura (slaps her) when she become hysterical over leaving Mr. edwards in the woods or something like that.

| I think it was fine... At that time period it was typical for kids to get "whippings"..but Pa didn't even give her one but just spoke of it. Also, I don't know one parent who has not had a bad day or reacted in an incorrect fashion sometimes. It is pretty normal for parents to once in awhile react harshly. We are only human. I think it shows that Pa wasn't this supernatural father he had faults too and maybe had a bad day and reacted harshly. Especially since Laura had them so worried.

| Be My Friend is my favorite of the 90 minute episodes.Charles sure did get mad at Laura for coming home after dark.He usually doesn't get that mad at her.
