| Opening scenes for this show, show's a bare chested Almanzo in the bath tub (nice chest by the way heehee), I don't recall seeing any other male character without his shirt. Wasn't this scene a little racey for primetime television back then when all of us young girls were watching so intently waiting for each new episode? I have to admit I sure enjoy it today...

| I think there were a couple of episodes where Pa was working and he had no shirt on. And there was an epsiode where he got hurt and you got to see at least part of his chest as he got patched up by Doc Baker. We got to see Almanzo's chest in "He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not" - even if it was covered mostly with ice. Once the Carters moved in there was also an episode where John Carter and Almanzo go to California for some type of convention and they end up in a bathhouse. You see both of their chests then. Maybe because it wasn't done too often the censors didn't have a problem with it. I think it was also done in such a way that it made sense to the storyline instead of being worked into the storyline like a soap opera.

| PrairieGirl, you are absolutely right, they found a reason for Pa to have his shirt off every few episodes. And, there's a post somebody has here that shows a lot of "Pa" without his shirt (I can't remember the name)...so you dang women can look for it! lol

| I'm pretty sure in the episode where Jack dies, when Laura finds Jack dead, she calls for Pa, and he's working without a shirt on in that scene. That scene makes me cry because it was so sad!

| Not that I can remember, but since he was a teacher I don't think he had the opportunity to remove his shirt and work out on the farm.
Your question makes me think of the episode The Christmas They Never Forgot. The men - Pa, Almanzo and Adam go out to check out the barn after part of the door blew off and crashed through the kitchen window. Adam offers to help Almanzo and Pa fix it and Charles says, "Na, with that city coat on you wouldn't last long." Having lived in New England my whole life, I can say that I doubt Adam would have only been wearing a suit coat in December. Not to mention that he was driving in an open stage coach and then in a covered wagon for part of the trip. At least Mary was smart enough to dress warmly.

| lol, Jenny25!!! I know I would've really enjoyed seeing Adam w/out his shirt off 2!!!!! He was hot!!!! Mary is one lucky girl!!!

| Another episdoe that Pa was without a shirt was The Creeper of Walnut Grove. They had Pa taking a bath after the green gunk came crashing down on him. Now I say sans a shirt b/c we know he was wearing something like a bathing suit or something but it did give one an opportunity to fantasize that maybe he was sans everything.
