Centennial--Episode Review03-03-2008 11:18:35 pm
The Independence Day celebration in Walnut Grove is threatened when taxes are increased. Most of the townsfolk are grumbling about the situation, but a Russian immigrant shows them why America is a great place and that he considers it to be the best place in the world to live.

I really like this episode. We get a view of America from someone who has lived in a place with far worse conditions than the townsfolk of Walnut Grove have ever had to deal with. I don't know if Michael had a message behind this episode--though he usually did--but it does give the viewer something to think about.

Centennial is one of my favorite episodes.Mary did a great job on the American flag. The Rushian family sure made them realize how lucky they are to live in this country.

This episode was shown in March 1976 and I'm sure purposely created due to the fact that the US was in its Bicentennial year. I think it was maybe supposed to show the audience the struggles and celebrations that people encountered in 1876 were not much different than what was going on in 1976.
